Travel Tips:

Flights

Consider flying into Dublin Airport (DUB) or Shannon Airport (SNN), both well-connected with international flights. Booking in advance and keeping an eye out for deals can help you snag affordable fares.

When it comes to booking travel, following the “Goldilocks” method is key to ensuring a memorable and hassle-free experience. Just like Goldilocks seeking the perfect porridge, bed, and chair, travelers aim to find options that are “just right.” This rule emphasizes striking a balance between various factors such as cost, convenience, and comfort. Booking too early may mean missing out on last-minute deals, while booking too late could result in limited availability and higher prices. Finding the sweet spot – not too early, not too late – ensures that you snag the best deals without compromising on quality.

The Goldilocks timeframe for booking international flights is 4-6 months before your trip. The best days to fly for the cheapest flights are midweek, like a Tuesday. Did you also know that there are multiple US airports that have direct flights to Ireland? Among the list are Chicago O’hare Airport and Denver International Airport

Additionally, considering factors like the timing of your trip, the reputation of accommodations and airlines, and flexibility in travel dates can help you find the perfect balance for an enjoyable and satisfying journey.

Best Time to Elope in Ireland

Ireland’s weather can be unpredictable, but the months of May to September generally offer milder temperatures and longer daylight hours, making them ideal for elopements. However, if you prefer fewer crowds and don’t mind a bit of chill, shoulder seasons like April or October can be charming too.

During my most recent visit, I went in May 2024. Honestly, the weather was quite nice for Spring. We had 55-65 Fº highs for most of the days – being from Michigan, this was like being at home. No matter when you go there will be tourists but there are a few things to help with that.

Tips to Avoid Crowds in Ireland Locations

  1. Plan on avoiding times of the day that are the most busy. Instead of sunset at a well-known location, consider sunrise at an adjacent spot.
  2. Take advantage of off-the-beaten-path locations. For example, when visiting the Cliffs of Moher skip the visitor center and start a short hike on the south viewing spot. This allows you to hike for as long as you want (.5 miles or all 5 miles of the cliffs).

Top 5 Locations to Elope in Ireland and Northern Ireland:

1. Cliffs of Moher, County Clare

Towering cliffs rising dramatically from the Atlantic Ocean, the Cliffs of Moher provide a stunning backdrop for exchanging vows. The views here are simply breathtaking, especially during sunset.

2. Dunserverick Castle, County Antrim

For a historic setting, look no further than Dunserverick Castle. This location holds castle ruins, nestled on the shore, it offers picturesque grounds for a romantic elopement (and there are sheep)! If you want more info on this location, inquire. This was one of my favorite locations to shoot.

3. Giant’s Causeway, County Antrim

Northern Ireland’s iconic landmark, the Giant’s Causeway, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site famed for its unique hexagonal basalt columns. Saying “I do” amidst this geological wonder will make your elopement truly unforgettable.

4. Killarney National Park, County Kerry

With its rugged mountains, serene lakes, and lush forests, Killarney National Park is a nature lover’s paradise. Choose a secluded spot by the lakeshore or beneath the canopy of ancient trees for an intimate ceremony surrounded by natural beauty.

5. Dublin City, County Dublin

Ireland’s vibrant capital offers a myriad of charming locations for an elopement. From historic churches to elegant gardens, Dublin provides endless possibilities for couples seeking an urban backdrop with a touch of Irish charm.
